PROJECT DESCRIPTION / Context
The last project of the second year architecture studio is the design of
a Music Therapy Center in a rural area in Izmir Urla.Urla sees itself as
a prosperous and forward-thinking municipality who is aware of the
accepted benefits of music therapy and is promoting this project. The
centre will offer a range of services to the community as mentioned
above. This may be a one to one consultation or participation in a
group session. There will also be residential courses where people
can benefit from the ‘glamping’ area within the gardens. It will offer
various music/ sound therapy interventions, with varying spatial
requirements. It is important to recognise that the surrounding landscape
forms part of the healing environment and should be designed accordingly.
In this therapy, sound is used as a healing device so it is important that the
‘aural landscape’ that you are creating both inside the building and in the
landscape is optimised.
